09-08-09, Greg Wilkinson Comments on the Limiting of Public Input by Glendale Mayor Frank Quintero

Hal, Your beam of light shone on the new (more like from the Dark Ages) practices initiated to limit public input at the Glendale City Council meetings and the further illumination by Sue Sarkis serves as a beacon (pardon the pun) for all local citizens who recognize the value and necessity of public involvement in governance.  It brings to mind our former president's lament that democracy is too messy and the public might be better served by dictatorship, provided the demagogue in charge was the thankfully termed-out W.  Your moral courage in the face of the intense and arrogant opposition from our local pols is ever-inspiring.  One of my regrets at not being selected as a columnist for the GNP is the fact that I will not have the opportunity to submit an interview with you.  A fantasy of mine would be to moderate a televised panel discussion featuring you, Barry Allen, Herb Molano and Bruce Philpott that would be broadcast in heavy rotation on GTV for about a year during Dave Weaver's upcoming re-election campaign.  Oh well, I know it'll never happen.  But you can't blame a guy for doing a little dreaming.  :)
