Re: Freedom of Speech in Glendale California

Hi Hal,

I didn't know that my address to the city council would stir up the public.  But, since it has, perhaps the citizens of Glendale will now think twice about councilmen Najarian and Drayman and their behavior.  I guess the 1st Amendment did not exist in the city of Glendale when Najarian and Drayman left the council chambers and would not listen to me speak!

I hope also the citizens of Glendale will recognize that the southern half of the city (south of the 134 Fwy) is truly not being represented by council.  All the best parks, sports fields, and our large sporting complex are located north of the 134 Fwy.  Mini parks dot south Glendale.

Recently Councilman Weaver stated that he tried in the past to get land for a park south of the 134 Fwy, but failed.  Why could he not convince his colleagues to set aside a few million dollars every year for a large park/sports complex for south Glendale?  At least start somewhere.  I offered to give the city $120.00 last night and Mayor Quintero blew me off with his usual laugh.

Lip service is what the council gives to having a large sports park for south Glendale.  Council counts the votes in south Glendale, and votes for the union every time.

Yes, Councilman Najarian did push to have an Olympic size swimming pool complex for Pacific Park, but the current economic situation prevented the additional money.  Had Mr. Najarian and his colleagues not pandered to the city unions these past several years we would have had enough money to purchase the land needed for a large swimming pool complex and perhaps a soccer complex too.

It is all about budgeting and how the council decides to spend the money.  It is obvious that when 70-80% of the General Fund goes to salaries and pensions not much is left over for parks, libraries, road and sidewalk repair and new construction.

Who on council will speak for our indigent population?  Sports, especially soccer, are very important to Armenians and Latinos.  To a lesser degree to Anglos.

When we have kids playing sports there is less chance that these kids will become inmates at our local jails.

We either pay now or pay later for the betterment of our children.

Who speaks for the little people Mr. Mayor?

Sincerely,

Mike Mohill, your local racist per Najarian and Drayman.
