06-27-10, Dick Seeley Comments on Vanguardians and the City of Glendale

With respect to the non-profit Vanguardians, while I think that Barry should be more open by advising the public of the names of his board members and, particularly, his finances when they come from the public, the real issue should be the complete transparency of the City of Glendale government including the City Council.  This city's government, if you can call it that, is about as closed as you can get despite comments by members to the contrary!

In my opinion, there should be NO closed meetings of any kind, including personnel matters.  Additionally, members of the council should not be making personal comments about individuals like Allen or anyone else while on the dais, especially when the person or persons are not present to respond!  If they are upset about someone's writing or verbal comments, they should discuss the matter off the Council!  There are several other points that could be made, like more concern for residents and less for developers, more regionalization with Burbank, Pasadena and perhaps Sunland-Tujunga and Sun Valley, etc, etc.

While the Vanguardians could be improved somewhat by providing more evidence on various allegations, etc., it is the only "protest" magazine or newsletter in Glendale that's worth a damn!
