05-13-10, Christian Arbid Speaks Up on the Issue of Registered Sex Offenders in and around Chevy Chase Canyon

Hopefully some of you have had a glimpse of tonight's newscast.

If not, the LA Times article is attached below.  I most certainly hope that this individual, Nancy Salas, is found safe and without harm but, there is absolutely an on going issue of fear with many residents of Chevy Chase canyon.  I personally have asked residents to speak at City Hall regarding their concerns, many simply will not speak publicly about this issue for a variety of reasons.

Having spoken before the council freely in the past, I was approached to speak about this controversial topic in March but could not due to a personal and vengeful attack against me from a Glendale groupie and loud mouth that temporarily barred me from being within a certain distance from this individual which included her "home base" at Council Chambers.  Thankfully, this item has now been resolved in my favor.

Moreover and certainly of more importance, in April, I began to do my own research on a touchy subject matter that few will touch.  There is a growing number of registered sex offers within Glendale; 13 alone in 91206 and a number of them within the upscale family enclave of Chevy Chase canyon.  Attached, please find a PDF that I printed and scanned on April 6, 2010 as I was preparing to validate some facts and begin my own research.

Near Chevy Chase Country Club, a lovely family will not allow their children to play in the front yard out of fear because a registered sex offender resides nearby.  I am in communication with this family but again, they are too concerned to address this taboo subject matter.

Some light and attention must be shed on this subject matter regardless of fear of retaliation, fear of bad press and declining property values.  It's simply unreal the stories Glendalians will come up with when asked why they will not address the council or bring this subject matter to the surface.

It takes a tragedy or a news story to suddenly gain the momentum that many of us have known for a while but remained silent including yours truly.  I am no exception. This recent news story now in the media spot light makes many in Chevy Chase canyon feel terrible and some who indirectly feel responsible for not being previously vocal if in fact this story gets traced back to a kidnapping, rape, and/or sex crime - God forbid.

It is time for someone to speak up and for the council to bring this issue up whether it be publicly and before the cameras or privately and within the walls of City Hall.  This is a serious issue and a growing problem.

It seems like the only other real concerns in Glendale are artificial turf, trash pick-up days, and a lengthy solar system permit process.

Tonight, I am sick to my stomach.

Christian Arbid

P.S..... maybe a prayer could be said @ Tuesday nights council meeting asking for the quick and safe return of Nancy Salas.  This weighs heavily on the hearts of many.
