02-26-09, Michael Teahan Responds to Herbert Molano’s Interpretation of City Council Candidates’ Positions

Once again, Herbert misses the mark when painting candidate positions.

I did not say that the salary problem was not urgent—that was Herbert’s subjective interpretation.  I said that the core problem of salaries appears to be overtime expenses which have to be handled with better management, reclassifying some positions and systemic changes to the way that we provide staff infill.  I also indicated that broader changes to contracts, pensions and how we determine what salary levels are appropriate is a longer term project that will take time and cooperation with the state and neighboring jurisdictions.

I do not believe that any candidate, no matter how urgent they believe the problem to be, will resolve this issue on their own nor very quickly.  To believe otherwise is naïve.  I do not recall seeing magic wands in the hands of Philpott, Kazazian, Stepanian or Yousefian last night, and Bob hasn’t yet pulled one out of his coat in the last 8 years on council.

I think that Herbert Molano needs to start listening more closely at these events and perhaps take his Bluetooth receiver out of his ear.
